Vinayaka Mission’s College of Nursing (VMCON), Puducherry was established in the year 2002 under the dynamic leadership of Dr. A. Shanmugasundaram. It was affiliated to the Pondicherry University till 2004 during which time it was brought under the Vinayaka Missions Research Foundation Deemed University, Salem. The institution is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council and the Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council. VMCON, Puducherry conducts M.Sc. (N), B.Sc. (N), P.B.B.Sc. (N) under Vinayaka Missions University and DGNM, DMPHW [F] and DHI under the Board of Examinations, Puducherry.

The institution has a total built up area of 68000 sq. ft in the Academic Block and 64000 sq. ft in the students residence area. The college has been provided with the requisite infrastructure with adequate audio-visual aids. It also has well-equipped laboratories for anatomy, physiology, microbiology, bio-chemistry, nutrition, fundamentals, computers, community, maternity and child health. The library is a storehouse of 2618 books including all the important books and journals of the latest edition of various authors at the national and international level. We update the library with a large number of new arrivals every year. About 350 copies of various specialty books were added to the library during the last academic year. The college has an excellent and dedicated teaching faculty team. Separate accommodation is maintained for both boys and girls with adequate facilities for study, dining, recreation, etc.

In addition to the above, the institute has the support of the Aarupadai Veedu Medical College & Hospitals, the parent hospital, a 650 bedded multi-specialty hospital and affiliated hospitals such as the ESI Hospital, Govt. General & Maternity Hospital, Puducherry, NIMHANS, Bangalore and the Govt. Mental Hospital, Trivandrum for clinical training.

Nurses play a key role in the health care delivery system. Nursing education of a good standard will assure placements and quality health care. This institution was started with the objective of providing nursing education to the rural population predominantly women based on the national philosophy “providing health care for all”. The curriculum is designed by the Indian Nursing Council.

Mission

The institution is committed to prepare graduates in nursing to render quality health care services in the preventive, curative, promotive and rehabilitative aspects of health care at the national and international level with a global perspective.

Vision

This institution is committed to impart nursing education at various levels to the under privileged and socially emancipated, predominantly women folk, to enable them to become qualified nurses who will render their services at all levels and thereby raise the prospects for the betterment of the nation with their academic excellence.

Philosophy

- The faculty of this college believe that graduate nurses will be able to apply nursing theories into nursing practice, education and administration.
- The graduate nurses are prepared for leadership through positions in the college, hospital and specialty areas as a consultant, educator, administrator and researcher.
- The faculty believe that the graduate program instills accountability and commitment in the learners to the society.
- The nurse researcher will be able to undertake research activities and implement those recommendations in nursing service education.
- The graduate nurses will also be able to function in the capacity of public health administrator to implement National Health Programmes at the community level.
