Vinayaka Missions Kirupananda Variyar Engineering College (VMKVEC) is a forerunner among all the engineering colleges in Salem District, Tamil Nadu. It was established in 1987 by our Honourable Chancellor Dr. A. Shanmugasundaram, a Salem-based philanthropist, to provide engineering knowledge to the rural youth. The college is located in a Sylvan surrounding, sprawling over a vast area of 150.22 acres of land with a built up area of 60000 sq. mts.
The college started functioning with three branches - Mechanical, Electronics and Communication and Computer Science Engineering. Over a period of two decades the college has made colossal strides in the field of engineering and technology education.
Today VMKVEC offers BE, BTech courses in 15 difference Specializations and ME, MTech courses in 21 difference specializations to the students under the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. The college became a constituent college of Vinayaka Missions University in 2004. There are more than 80 spacious classrooms with the provision for using laptops. A pioneer in using cutting edge technologies in the field of education, VMKVEC has 20 digital classrooms set up with pro-active boards. A unique opportunity for the students of VMKVEC is the special training given to them in high-tech software such as MATLAB, Lab VIEW, SIMULINK, CAD-CAM, etc.
The six centrally air-conditioned computer labs with more than 750 systems are provided with intranet and internet connection.
The newly constructed main auditorium at VMKVEC can accommodate 3000 persons and this is where co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are conducted.
There is also an air-conditioned auditorium that can house more than 300 persons, which is used for the conduct of activities like seminars, conferences, paper presentations and association activities. Incidentally these are almost a daily feature at VMKVEC.
