Aarupadai Veedu Medical College & Hospitals (AVMCH) was founded by our Hon’ble Chairman, Dr. A. Shanmugasundaram, in the year 1999. It started functioning with an annual intake of 100 MBBS students with the approval of the Government of India and the MCI.
It has more than 650 inpatient beds and the daily OPD attendance is more than 800. The pre-clinical and para-clinical departments are well equipped with their own laboratories, library, demonstration rooms, museum, etc. The library is one of the best in Puducherry with more than 10,000 books and 100 journals.
The teaching staff are well-experienced in teaching and research. Our university results have a proven record of excellence. Our institution also extends its educational facilities to the paramedical and nursing courses.
The campus is spread over more than 40 acres of land. The campus which offers a holistic and conducive ambience to the students is also provided with all the requisite infrastructural amenities like a canteen, stationery shop, STD booth and ATM centre.
The hospital has recently started a haemodialysis unit and a new accident and emergency ward. MRI, mammography and bone density facilities are also available now. The college is endowed with the best system and pedagogy to carry out Under-Graduate and Post Graduate training, scientific discussions and academic research in the best manner. It has a large laboratory offering a wide array of investigations, with an internal and external quality assurance system to ensure reliable and accurate laboratory results for correct diagnosis and treatment. It also has critical care units with sophisticated equipment and technology for specialized care. Ambulance services are available round-the-clock.
All the departments concerned with patient care are covered by the HIS (Hospital Information System), the hospital management software.
The institute has formulated a programme called “In Safe Hands”, where each teacher is given the charge of three students. This programme aims at providing the students with a guide who would advise and counsel them about their problems both academic and personal. The faculty advisors assess the potential of every student and the students are encouraged to exhibit their talents in co-curricular as well as extra-curricular activities in addition to the regular academic curriculum
